Saturday, October 17, 2009 Members of Rock City Unique Steppers met at Martin Park, in
Loves Park, IL to participate in a Breast Cancer Fundraiser Walk. Brenda Gooden formed the team to raise money and walk
for the American Cancer Society. It is a non-competitive walk and was about 4 miles. Everyone
walks for different reasons but all Making Strides participants know that they are helping the American Cancer Society save
lives. Brenda is a Breast Cancer Survivor of 9 years.
4,500 walkers participated in the walk on a beautiful morning and collected
$305,000. Brenda's team name is "Steppin' Out Breast Cancer" and her Team of 22 walkers collected
$1,551.00. After the walk several of the walkers met out at Old Country Buffet for a Victory Lap Brunch. Thanks
to Brenda and her hard work. Special thanks goes out to Jackie Hodges, Doris Graham and Janiya McClain for
being the top collectors. Rock City Unique Steppers made a $50.00 contribution to the fund.
